History and Background

On September 27, 1994, Assistant Professor Dr. Phasuk Kulavanijaya, the President of Burapha University, Mr. Amorn Anantachai, Governor of Chanthaburi Province at the time, Mr. Somchai Niyomkit, Member of Parliament for Chanthaburi Province, Assistant Professor Dr. Pichan Sawangwong, Vice President for International Relations, Professor Viratkarava Pityakul, Dean of the Faculty of Science at the time, and Professor Prathom Jaichit, Vice President for Planning and Development at the time, traveled to Wat Tha Khlang, Sanam Chai Subdistrict, Na Yai Am District, Chanthaburi Province, to consult with local leaders including the subdistrict chief, village heads, the subdistrict council, and the community on the province's proposal for the university to expand its campus to Chanthaburi. At the same time, a member of Parliament from Chanthaburi had sent an official letter on the same matter to the Ministry of University Affairs. (In fact, the university already had a policy to expand a campus in the eastern region according to its mission and the name of Burapha University. Additionally, the university wanted to build expertise in marine science and needed a suitable coastal area for research in coastal aquaculture.) In this regard, the province agreed to allow the use of approximately 878 rai of public land in Nong Sanam Chai for the establishment of a university campus. After consideration, the university deemed this area suitable for coastal aquaculture research, the establishment of an ecology center, and the creation of a mangrove forest in honor of the King's Golden Jubilee, as the area is mostly accessible by seawater. However, there might be challenges regarding fresh water access, so the university coordinated with the province to find a new area for educational purposes and producing graduates. The following areas were granted for this purpose:

The university had a policy to begin teaching at the Chanthaburi Information Campus and temporarily used Thong Yai Anusorn Hall as offices and classrooms, starting in June 1996. In 1997, the province permitted the use of the old provincial hall as a library and classroom building. In April 2001, the Chanthaburi Information Campus office was moved to Khomong Subdistrict, Tha Mai District, Chanthaburi Province (the current location of Burapha University Chanthaburi Campus), and classes commenced for the first semester of 2001. On June 1, 2009, the university officially changed the name from Burapha University Chanthaburi Information Campus to Burapha University Chanthaburi Campus, which remains its name to this day.
